Our administrative team would like to make you aware of some changes that will be taking place in the next few of weeks. Recently, the Rochelle Park Board of Education and the Rochelle Park Education Association agreed on a new contract which contains changes to our instructional day schedule. Specifically, your children will be receiving an increased amount of instruction each day. Each period has been lengthened and therefore our new dismissal time will be later by nine (9) minutes.
The new instructional bell schedule which contains these changes can be accessed HERE. Please take a moment to look it over so that you can familiarize yourself with it. We are fully aware that these changes will require an adjustment period for our working Midland families, and that they will need some time to plan ahead. Therefore, we will begin to implement these changes on Monday, January 30th.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Midland School will hold its Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday, November 21st and Tuesday, November 22nd. Our aftemoon sessions on both days will be from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Our evening session on the 21st will be from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
Please be advised that we are initiating a change this year regarding parent-teacher conferences. In an effort to maximize the time that is spent with teachers and to make the experience more meaningful, conferences will be scheduled by teacher request only in grades 3-8. Teachers who feel the need to conference with you regarding your child's academic performance and/or behavior will extend an invitation to you. Please note that there is a possibility that no teacher requests a conference with you at this time.
If you do not receive an invitation but strongly feel you need a conference with a particular teacher, please schedule an appointment.

Dear Members of the Rochelle Park Community:
At the October 13th Board of Education meeting, Mrs. Hurd, our Director of Curriculum, gave a comprehensive report on District Assessment. The excellent news is that our students are trending up on the PARCC assessment and this is a tribute to our faculty and staff members who work with our students every day. You may access that report here.
Also at the October 13th meeting, our Principal, Mr. Cannici, presented a letter that was recently received from the Executive Director of the Regional Achievement Centers (RAC), John Marshall. For those of you that do not know, the Regional Achievement Centers are intervention teams that were launched by the New Jersey Department of Education to implement proven turnaround principles and improve student achievement in districts that were identified as “Priority” or “Focus” Schools. Back in 2012, Midland School No. 1 was identified as a “Focus School” due to an achievement gap that developed between higher and lower performing subgroups on state assessments.
We are very happy to report that the letter from Mr. Marshall provided our district with some very encouraging news about the progress we have made in recent years. Our administrative team and our instructional staff members have been working extremely hard to improve student performance on state assessments, and the results we recently received prove that the hard work is paying off! Please feel free to read Mr. Marshall's letter here.
We are very encouraged by our progress to date and hope to continue to have your support as together we take our next steps in improving our program and achievement scores.

Dear Parents and Guardians:
Registration for the Rochelle Park PreK – 4 Program will be on Tuesday April 19th and Thursday April 21st. Rochelle Park residents may register their child(ren) from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM in the Main Office at Midland School #1, 300 Rochelle Avenue, Rochelle Park. There will also be an Open House you may attend to find out more information about our Preschool Program on April 22nd from 1:30-2:00 PM. Please note that spots are very limited and registering your child does not guarantee you a spot! There will be a Lottery for 8 preschool spots on Wednesday, April 27th at 1:30 PM in the Media Center.
At the time of preschool registration, parents are required to bring their child’s birth certificate and immunization records. It is not necessary to bring your child with you to registration. In addition, parents must have their child(ren) examined by a private physician prior to the opening of school in September 2016. Examination forms will be available at the time of registration. All parents must show proof of residency in Rochelle Park by presenting a copy of a deed, signed lease or affidavit, and utility bill. Children must be age 4 on or before October 1, 2016 in order to be eligible for registration. Please feel free to contact (201) 759-9846 or email@example.com.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding our Latchkey Program, please contact Mrs. Barbara Kroog at (201) 759-9846 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Congratulations to the entire Midland School Community for very successful Pennies for Patients campaign.
We raised a total of $4,872.30 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society! This way surpassed our initial goal of $1500. Mrs. Hani’s Kindergarten class was the first place winning homeroom, having collected a total of $520.74. Mrs. Hernando’s 1A class came in second place, having collected a total of $460.70. We should all feel very proud of ourselves because with every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar we donated, we helped save lives of cancer patients. Give yourselves a round of applause!
Midland School will again be participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Pennies for Patients Program; a service learning program that gives students the unique experience of working together to help raise awareness and funds in honor of thousands of children and adults fighting against blood cancers! We are asking that everyone join in this effor of raising awareness and collecting funds to benefit the mission of LLS: to find cures for blood cancers and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
We will be collecting donations from March 7th through March 24th.

Some of our middle school teachers are using a new messaging tool this year called "Remind". This tool, which can be used as an "app" on your cell phone, helps teachers share important updates and reminders with students and parents. If you receive an email explaining that your child's teacher is currently using "Remind", please be advised that it is safe and that we are aware of its use in our classrooms.
